Weather for fish but what about otters?

21/10/2013

It’s on days like these that you’d be hard-pressed to recall the ‘limpid silver glide… Between emerald banks’ of poet David Gray’s Luggie. Have you seen it? The water’s high and foamy and you might rather imagine his ‘pellucid’ waters turned to fast-gushing stout, complete with creamy, frothing head. Doubtless it would be fine for those who enjoy white-water rafting. But how do otters get on when it’s been raining hard, and mud (and branches) are being whipped along by the current? Does anyone know? It must be really hard to catch fish. (From Drowned Rat)

It's very important that as many respond to the consultation process as possible. EDC want to hear from you if you live or work in the area. See development issues page for more help.

Otter sightings & others

12/10/2013

Some excitement around from the summer. In July, as I walked towards the footbridge near the bing in Waterside, I heard a strange chirping noise over at the water. Sure enough I was lucky to catch a quick glimpse of 2 small otters, running for cover.

Recently in September, another couple of locals said they saw 2 otters (perhaps the same ones) further downstream in the grassy area away from the footpath. keep an eye out folks and report it if you can!
